The Project
Adaptive-reuse and addition to a historic art deco theater in San Pedro creates a new landmark

Seeking to expand the iconic Warner Grand Theater in the port city of San Pedro, CA, our proposal pragmatically and imaginatively speculates on the future of this Art Deco structure, providing much needed physical accessibility to the 800-seat facility and adding a variety of ancillary functions and cultural amenities in an adjacent vacant corner lot. The new cultural tower, a dominating vertical mass partially cladded in perforated aluminum mesh and with a distinctive unstable silhouette, emphatically anchors the theater to its urban context, creating a beacon for the performing arts in an area of Los Angeles in much need of revitalization.
