The Project
A pliant and welcoming atmosphere crafted inside an old warehouse in Rosario, Argentina

The Soho Lounge bar proposal creates a distinctive and unparalleled spatial atmosphere that activates a spectrum of effects, ranging from diffuse lighting in different colors to contrasts between materials and intricate formal variations. The desired aesthetic responds to market demands for brand differentiation, while the material systems responsible for generating and sustaining the effects are inherently functional, serving to organize multiple flows of movement.

The interior layout revolves around the bars that form the central hub of the space and direct the movement of potential visitors. Our proposal makes use of the ceiling / skylight as the agent to articulate the programmatic changes, induce the internal movement, and orient people’s possible trajectories. It is the only element that provides natural light (emitting blue light during the night), and designing around it, we create a complex lighting mechanism covered by twisted bands that periodically allow in natural light. The light is diffused through sandblasted polycarbonate-covered pockets that cover 0.8 meters-wide (~31.5 inch-) openings between 15 reticulated, twisting steel beams. Each section always has spaces of regular width altering only its positioning in relation to an axis of rotation. However, twisting effects produced on many of the tertiary surfaces imply that many will be cut individually to fit their position. The systematic approach reflects our goal to achieve a balance between quantitative and qualitative efficiency with the highest possible visual impact.
