Aiming to balance the vast and heavenly nature of spaces for mass congregation with the visual and physical accessibility of their implied public nature, Prishtina Mosque implies a new kind of urban landmark, wherein the spiritual experience of religion is intensified by its corporeal manifestation.

Levitating just above the boulevard, as if appearing from the ground, the monolithic mass of the prayer hall dominates the overall composition. A twisting minaret behind anchors the horizontality of the elevated ground and becomes a natural and symbolic beacon for public orientation. Surrounding the texture-filled volume of the prayer hall is a withdrawn courtyard for outdoor prayer. With a surface articulation that is closer to glitch or noise than ornament, the New Pristina Mosque flickers with a graphic array of parallel lines, offering varying densities, distortions, and visual intensities that both enhance and obfuscate the building.
