A spatial, sustainable building paradigm nurtures interdisciplinarity and social ecosystems
CGU Cadigan is an innovative and dynamic educational building designed as an incubator for multidisciplinary learning at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). Serving students, faculty, administration, and community alike, it is more than just a physical structure; it embodies the university’s ethos and reflects CGU’s commitment to sustainability and excellence.
The architectural design, with its alternating opacity and transparency, creates a fluid environment that not only allows distinct activities to unfold but also encourages cross-pollination among scholars, artists, and professionals. The Agora, a semi-open courtyard space serving as a gathering space at the heart of the building, prioritizes comfort, with a cascading and terraced space that is also punctuated with green areas and vegetation. Seamlessly merging indoor and outdoor spaces also provides for passive cooling, making the interior courtyard both environmentally comfortable as well as socially lively and aesthetically pleasant.
The building’s integration into the CGU campus is facilitated by its porous and inviting architectural form. An iconic presence at CGU, the building’s serves as a beacon of positive impact, providing a catalyst for creativity and innovation as well as inspiring generations to come.
